Biography
Oliver Pulman was born in Yorkshire, England.
Oliver Pulman migrated from England to Virginia.
Oliver was born near in England on 7 Nov 1839.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7] He accompanied his mother and siblings to join his father and eldest half-brother in American in 1850.[8][9][10] On 4 Jun 1863, he married Mary Elizabeth Spinks in Alexandria, Virginia.[11] They had several children but Oliver died fairly young at the age of 52 on 31 Oct 1891.[12]
Research Notes
Oliver was born in the last quarter of 1839 according to the birth registry.[1] and the census taken on 6 Jun 1841 shows him over a year old[4] rather than only seven months as would be the case if the head stone on his grave - showing 7 Nov 1840 - were correct. As his brother David was born 3 Jul 1841, it was not possible for Oliver to have been born to the same mother in November 1840 so we can discount that source.[12]
There is some confusion over the date of death. The obituary, the head stone and at least one death listing[13] all have 31 Oct but another death certificate listing has 29 Oct.[14]
The tombstone lists six children: Ralph, Damascus, Lillian, Nellie P, Virginia L, and Thomas A.[15]
