It is claimed that he served in the Royal Navy and took part in the Battle of Trafalgar with Nelson. The muster list has only one John Pollard a midshipman age 18. This is not the same person as this Pollard was born in 1787 and died 1868 and is credited as the person who killed the Frenchman that shot Nelson.

John came out to the colony in October 1841 on the Ganges with his family. His age was 58. He was Protestant. No occupation was listed. He must have followed his son and married daughter who arrived in April 1839 on the Hindoo.
He is buried in St John's Cemetery Pinjarra with his wife. Cemetery records have his age as 62. Online death records do not list a place of birth.
