Biography

John was born in 1810^[1]. His parents were John PLEYDELL and Maria.

15 year old, John PLEYDELL was accused in Middlesex Gaol Delivery court of Violent Theft: highway robbery on 14 Sep 1826, was found guilty and sentenced to death. Later his sentence was commuted to transportation to the Colony of New South Wales for life^[2].

The convict ship, Guildford set sail from England on 22 Mar 1827 and arrived in New South Wales on 25 Jul 1827, among the 190 convicts was John PLEYDELL^[3]

According to the New South Wales Gazette, John earned a Conditional Pardon on 1 Jul 1842^[4]

He passed away in 1875 in Parramatta, New South Wales^[5].

...We have to add another name in the list of old residents who have be called away by the hand of Death in the person of Mr. John Pleydell, and, most singular to relate, another old and respected servant of the Maharatta station. Mr. Pleydell, like Mrs. Smith, has been on Maharatta for upwards of 30 years - first with Mr. Hebden, then with Mr. Joseph; and during the whole of that long period Pleydell had the esteem and confidence of his employer. Pleydell had been suffering for the past few months with dropsy, which resulted in his death....

No marriage has been found to Mary Ann REEVES, the mother of at least 2 sons to John (John 1848 and James abt 1850 - their birth records are also missing)
