John Pitt was born about 1673, son of George Pitt of Strathfieldsaye in Hampshire and Duke Street, Westminster, and his wife, Jane Savage. He was educated at Baliol College, Oxford and Inner Temple. [1]
On October 16, 1690, at the age of seventeen, John married Lady Diana Howard, daughter of Henry Howard, 5th Earl of Suffolk. As a result either of inheritance or of marriage, Pitt had been able to set himself up as a country squire in his own right with the purchase of the Crow’s Hall estate in 1697. He later acquired a neighbouring manor, and in 1710 property at Great Bealings, where he seems to have resided. [2]
