- Event: Arrived Opunake Taranaki NZ by Ship as child, He spoke often about being carried ashore from a long boat
- Date: 1882. His father build a house on Whitcombe Rd Opunake
The house is still there although a 2nd storey has been build over top of it
- After marriage Mercy and William went farming out the back of Stratford at
Toko in 1905 During the WW1 with a large family needing education they moved into Stratford NZ and started a plant nursery. The nursery was still there in 1970
- Event: DP 3423 Vol 86 Folio 535 acres one rood & 18 decimal three perches
