Biography

Stanley was born in 1903 in Red Lodge, Carbon County, Montana, the son of Axel Mauritz Peterson and Ellen Marie Eddy. His parents worked both on and off-farm, and the family lived for a while in Joliet, Montana where his father managed a grain mill, and in Absarokee where his father was a coal truck driver and his mother worked as a telephone operator. After completing high school, Stanley remained in the Absarokee area. In 1928 at the age of 24, he married Mildred E. Kyle. The couple initially stayed with her parents in Absarokee, then had their own place there. Stanley ran a gas station. He and Mildred did not have children, but reportedly adopted a boy. Stanley passed away in 1972 in Cascade, Montana and is buried together with his wife Mildred in Rosebud Cemetery outside of Absarokee.
