He married Harriet Horton, ( the daughter of Enoch Horton Brass Founder; she was his second wife) on 20 February 1842 in St Phillips Birmingham. He is cited as a widower and his father is Thomas Parkes, Gardener. The 1851 Census records Harriet as wife and the following children; Harriet 8 years, George 5, Martha 3 and Henry, one month. George is listed as engine driver.
