Biography

George was born in 1807 to Thomas and Martha Parks . He was baptised in Coventry at St John the Baptist church on 17 May 1807. Both parents are listed. He became an engine driver in the early days of steam power and locomotion. He married Harriet Horton, ( the daughter of Enoch Horton Brass Founder; she was his second wife) on 20 February 1842 in St Phillips Birmingham. He is cited as a widower and his father is Thomas Parkes, Gardener. The 1851 Census records Harriet as wife and the following children; Harriet 8 years, George 5, Martha 3 and Henry, one month. George is listed as engine driver.
