Biography

Flag of Cambridgeshire (adopted 2015)
Gift (Palmer) Gott was born in Cambridgeshire, England.

Gift Palmer [1] was born 08 Jun 1600 in Cambridge TWP, Cambridge Co., England. [2]

Reportedly born 8 Jun 1600 in Cambridge, Cambridge, England (deposed "aged about sixty-six years," March Term, 1668; in the list of early Salem church members kept by John Fiske (which differs from that retained by the church itself).

Married Charles Gott at St. Andrew the Great, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, 30 October 1625. "Gift Gott" appears in a position that would place her admission in January or February of 1637/8; she was living on 23 January 1667/8 when her husband made his will.

They had at least 3 children: Deborah, Charles, & Daniel. The 1637 Salem land grant credits Charles Gott with a household of six, but we only know of three: Charles himself, his wife Gift, and daughter Deborah. Since the couple had already been married for more than a decade by this time, there could well have been other children who left no further trace on the record.

Children[1]

  1. Deborah, bpt. Salem 12 Feb 1636/7 [SChr 16]. died before her father without issue
  2. Charles bpt Salem June 1639 [SCHR17]; m. (1) Sarah Dennis and (2) Lydia Clark
  3. Danyell Gott bpt Salem 28 June 1646 [Schr 21]; m. Elizabeth Morris, daughter of Thomas Morris of New Haven.
