Lula (Oliver) Shackleford is a part of US Black heritage.
Lula May Oliver's story began on January 15, 1881, in the heartland of Arkansas. Raised amidst the rolling hills and verdant landscapes, she grew into a woman of strength and resilience.
By the turn of the 20th century, Lula found herself in Fordyce, Dallas County, Arkansas, where she toiled as a cook, mastering the culinary arts with her skilled hands and unwavering dedication.
On March 4, 1903, Lula's life took a momentous turn as she exchanged vows with John Dewitt Shackleford in Nevada County, Arkansas. Their union marked the beginning of a journey intertwined with love and commitment.
Tragically, fate dealt a cruel blow to Lula's young life. On April 2, 1909, she departed from this world, leaving behind a grieving husband and a young son. Her final resting place became the serene grounds of De Ann Cemetery in Prescott, Nevada County, Arkansas, where she was laid to rest, her memory enshrined in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
