Born 1804 in Barony of Alowe Navan County Meath, Navan by the Boyne Parihes of Donaghmore, Ardsallagh, and Bective

Notes

He opened the first post office in Navan in 1861 It is reported that the name for Navan was given by Michael after a well known Irish town of Navan (an uaimh) in the county Meath. The streets of Fairgreen and Trim road are named after the streets in his home parish. the O'Meara septs are reputed to originate from Upper Ormond, parish of Agnamadie in the village of Toomavara Tipp. They arrived in Canada in the 1835s (about the same time as the Kenny's and Maddens and settled in Longueil now known as L'Original. Shortly thereafter they moved to toE 1/2 lot11 conc 7 in Cumberland. Catherine Omeara his daughter in the 1901 census stated that the Kennys' arrived in 1835. There is a settlement of Omeara's in Cullumrkill, Barony of Ormond Co. Longford Ireland and that is from where they left to emmigrate to Ireland. An article written by J E Omeara (OGS FAMILIES Vol 17, no 1) concerning the Omeara's of the Upper Ottawa states that the brothers Omeara came from Birr in Co. Offaly (then Kings Co.) Ireland. A part of the family came from Tipperary and moved to Birr in 1827. These Omeara's are buried in the Church of Ireland graveyard in Borrisokane. In that graveyard their is a memorial which reads "Here lies the body of James OMeara who departed this life the 31 of dec 1832 aged 68 Years. This stone is erected in his by his brothers Patrick and John Omeara" . An Omeara still lives on the farm at Lorrha which is but five mile from the county line and Birr. One descendant still lives in town.. Their is in Drumbane, Birr, County Offaly a large manor house built by William OMeara. It still carries the family crest (a pelican vulning itself proper) on the gable of one side. How Michael (of Cumberland township ) is related to the Omeara's of Perth and the family in Bir is probably lost in the old church records in Ireland.
