Christina Murray was born in 1843 in Tyrie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, United Kingdom, the daugher of William and Ann Murray.
Christina was 8 at the time of the 1851 Census. She was living with her family on Skelmanie Street, Tyrie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Her father, William, farmed 20 acres. [1]
As recorded in the 1861 census, Christian was employed as a general servant, working for another Murray family living on Church Street in New Pitsligo, Tyrie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. She was 18 and unmarried; her employers, George and Elizabeth Murray, owned a four room house. George was a master mason who employed 30 men. [2] It seems likely that one of the apprentices named in this census, one James Murray (19) was her brother and may have been the reason she was hired as a servant. It should also be noted that George and Elisabeth also had a daughter named Christian (born in Tyrie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland in 1835) which may cause confusion between the two girls. [3]
She married William Watson 18 Aug 1866 in Strichen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. [4]
Their first child, William Watson, was born 30 Sept 1866 in Aberdour, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. [5] William died aged only six months on 23 Mar 1867 as a result of hydrocephalus. His grandfather, Alexander, reported his death to the registrar two days later in Cruden, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. [6][7]
As recorded in the 1871 census, Christian and their two daughters were living in two rooms on Auchmacledie Street/House in Aberdour, Aberdeenshire, while William was enumerated at his employer's farm in Strichen, Aberdeenshire. Christian was 26, while Ann and Mary were 3 and 1, respectively. Christian was recorded as a farm servant's wife, while the two children were listed as farm servant's daughters. [8]Ann and Mary had both been born in Aberdour, as their older brother, William, had.
By the time of the 1881 Census, William, Christina, and their children Annie (13), Margaret (8), George (6), Christina (4), and Jane (2), were living in Claremont Terrace, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England, United Kingdom. William was employed as a cartman. He and Christina were both 37 years old. George and Jane were born in Newcastle on Tyne, while the rest of the children were born in Scotland. [9]
At the time of the 1891 Census, William and his family were again living in Cruden, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. William was 47[10]
William and his family were again recorded living in Cruden, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, in the 1901 Census. He and Christina were both 57, while Annie (now Adams) was 35, George was 26, Willilam was 17, Forbes was 15, and Jane was 24. Annie's three children was living with them as well: Margaret (8), George (6), and Christian (5). [11]
Christina died 20 Apr 1915 in Cruden, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. She was 71.[12] [13]
