Biography

Alice and her sister, Bertha, married brothers, William Elisha and George Henry Crutchfield, respectively, thus their children were double first cousins. The sisters and their husbands owned family property next to one another in the Herbine community of Cleveland County, Arkansas. The road that still runs between the two properties is aptly named Crutchfield Road, and both properties are still owned by their descendants.

Alice and William William Elisha had the following children: William Carl, Eva L. (m. Tucker), Richard Lee, Samuel Orene, Lester Ray, Lucille "Lucy" Sadie (m. Doss), and John Allen.

Alice also helped raise Sam's three eldest daughters after their mother, Argie Stewart Crutchfield, passed away at about age 24. My mother, Glenna, was about six when her mother died.

Note: Some middle names and initials of the children are from the 1920-30 census records.
