Biography

Walter was born in 1874. He is the son of James Moore and Elizabeth Dawson[1].

In 1899, he married Mary Payne in Guildford[2].

Walter James Finlayson, was committed to Fremantle gaol in July 1912 and released from custody in December 1912. Finlayson was sentenced at the February sittings of the Wellington Quarter Sessions to three years' imprisonment on a charge of stealing as a public servant. He was a a supervisor of road contracts. An appeal was lodged against the conviction, and at the end of March the Full Court quashed the conviction and ordered a new trial. The Crown then appealed against the Full Court's decision, and the case came before the High Court of Australia, with the result that the magistrate's decision was upheld[3][4].

Death
FINLAYSON—On July 3rd (1925), at Perth Hospital, Walter James, dearly beloved husband of Mary Finlayson, and loving father of Maud (Mrs. R. Helyar), Leah and Clyde, and grandfather of little Geoffrey, after long and patient suffering. Aged 49 years.[5].

Walter was mentioned on a memorial in Karrakatta Cemetery and Crematorium, Karrakatta, Nedlands City, Western Australia, Australia with a death date of 3 Jul 1925.[6].
