There is an FTDNA Project I just launched for your Y Haplogroup that you may be interested in joining, it is the J-Z35794 Founder Project. The Founder of J-Z35794 lived between 1310-1510 CE. Based on record and DNA evidence for men with the J-Z35794 Haplogroup, the earliest Founder is likely to be Alexander Montgomery (1305-1388) of Renfrewshire, Scotland and could be as late as Alexander Montgomery born 1428 who married Elizabeth Hepburn. The goal of the project is to confirm with DNA and documentary evidence the descendants of the Founder of J-Z35794 and the founders of each subclade downstream of J-Z35794.

I'm an active genealogist for about 15 years since retirement, spending several hours per day, working on the family pedigree. I stand on the shoulders of giants - my father and my step-mother, who preceded me, working for 40 years using the tools of the time to build the family tree. While their work was rock-solid, I think I have expanded the tree in a meaningful way, using the tools available today.
