Alfred Moritz Mond was born in Widnes, Lancashire in 1868. [1]
The family were living in Farnworth, near Widnes when the 1871 census was taken:
Alfred married Violet Florence Mabel Goetze on 16 June 1894, at St Johns Wood, Westminster. He was age 25, lived at 66 Lowdnes Square, was a barrister by profession and was the son of Ludwig Mond, F.R.S. a manufacturing chemist. Violet was 26 years old, she lived at 86, Carlton Hill and was the daughter of James Henry Goetze, deceased, a merchant. [3]

Alfred became involved in politics, he was MP for Chester 1906-1910, MP for Swansea 1910-1918 and MP for Swansea West 1918-1923. He was created a baronet in 1910, and in 1928 was created a Lord, and given the title of 1st Baron Melchett,[6]
He was a director and later managing director of his father's company Brunner Mond & Co, and also Mond Nickel Co. In 1926, he was instrumental in the formation of ICI, (Imperial Chemicals), after successfully merging four separate companies.
Alfred died in London on 27 December 1930, and was buried in St Pancras cemetery . [7] The entry in the probate calendars showed that his estate was valued at £1,029,673 17s 7d [8]
