Biography

I am a fifth generation Texan through my maternal Henderson line. The last of my immigrant ancestors to arrive in the U.S. was Eliza Chadwick (1826-1910), about 1834/5 from England. The rest arrived before 1800. My documented roots in the U.S. stretch back to the 1600s and include Mayflower passengers and New Netherlands immigrants. My mother has been a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for several years, with six approved ancestors. I have not yet joined.

My interest in family history was piqued by old family photos and stories. My mom and I did "old school" research as early as the 1980s. About 1994 or 1995, we discovered Family Tree Maker, which I still use today (v. 2019). My research was mostly off and on until about 2011, due to family and work responsibilities.

I love learning. I spend a fair amount of time working to improve my research skills and striving to follow the genealogical proof standard (GPS). WikiTree appeals to my desire to write narratives with footnotes (a work in progress!), as well as my interest in dabbling in formatting language. (Wiki markup is new to me.)
