Thomas Mitchell was born in 1849 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, England, United Kingdom, son of Richard Septimus Mitchell (1828–1906) and Dory Hughes.

Thomas was baptised on 23 July 1849 in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England.[1]

Thomas married Alice Holman (born in 1863 in Ballarat East, Colony of Victoria). [2]

Their children were:

  1. Richard James Mitchell (1884–1961)
  2. Phyllis Margaret Mitchell (~1907– )

Thomas died in 1918 in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, aged 68. [3]
