Biography

James Newton was born in 1846. He was the son of Moses Miller.

James was a Private in 12 West Virginia Infantry (Union). He was captured May 15, 1864 at New Market. He was held at Andersonville Prison until exchanged 12/10/1864. He wrote a book about Andersonville.

James was a newspaper publisher at Sac City, IA.

He was a founder of a GAR unit in Sac City

He was a legislator in IA

He passed away in 1922 and is buried in KS.
