Biography

James was born on 15 August, 1903 at Airdrie, Scotland, to James Millar (1867-1952) and Flora Anne (McDowell) Millar (abt.1870-1933).

James Millar, 26, Bread Packer, married May Bailey, 24, Machinist, Spinster, both Protestant, on 22 February, 1930, by License, at First Church, Vancouver[1]. Witnesses were Rose Bailey and John Millar, and Rev. Andrew Roddau officiated. At the time of their wedding, May and James were living at 1027 Georgia Street East. May was born in London, England, to Charles Jacob Bailey and Rose King, also both born in London, England, and could both read and write. James was born in Airdrie, Scotland, to James Millar, born Thornhill, Scotland, and Flora Anne McDowall, born Carnwath (Lanarkshire), Scotland, and could both read and write.

James and May Millar had 3 children,

  • Ernest, born 1930;
  • Thomas; and
  • Walter Frederick, born 14 August, 1941.

The 1931 Census of Canada recorded James Miller, 28, Checker, Bakery, and May, 26, Homemaker, living with their son Ernest, 7 or 9 months, at 1424 France (Street?), a 3-bedroom apartment which they were renting for $15/month[2]. This Census also recorded that the family did not have a radio. Wife May's brother Edward and sister Elizabeth, and their families, were also living in the same apartment building.

At the time of his death, James and May Millar were living at 2381 Trinity Street, Vancouver, British Columbia.

James Millar died on 3 July, 1970 at Vancouver, British Columbia, of Prostate Cancer, and was interred in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia[3]

James and May Millar are buried together in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia[4].
