James Neilson Millar born abt 1845 Buchlyvie, Kippen, Stirlingshire, Scotland [1] and died 1903. Son of William Millar & Isabella Neilson.
Birth date:
Where to start?
At his 1884 marriage James said he was a 35 yr old carriage maker, ie born about 1849, Scotland.
By the 1901 census the specific date given was 20 Dec 1852.
But back in the 1851 census he is shown as aged 6 no wonder my 1850 +/2 yr searches never found him! (my usual +/- 5 is a bit much for such a common surname) Henderson-2297 10:07, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
The 20 December part of the date is presumed to be accurate.

Discussion
Records are consistent that James' father is William (albeit inconsistent as to whether William was a wagon maker or a baker), but a little ambiguous about whether his mother is an Isabella or an Elizabeth.
In Scotland these names can be synonyms, witness his own sister who shows as Isabel on one record and Eliza on the next.
With his marriage showing his mother as Elizabeth but all census data showing Isabella, it was a relief to find Jas N Miller carriage maker being the informant for the death of Isabella Miller in 1876 Henderson-2297 10:07, 9 July 2018 (UTC).
