Mary is the daughter of George Mellor. She was baptized on 27 Mar 1796 at Almondbury, All Hallows, Yorkshire, England. She married John Lockwood of Brighouse, Yorkshire on 28 Feb 1816. They had eight children: James, Joseph, Simeon, John, Elizabeth, David, Mary Ann & Charles Mellor. The entire family, except James & Simeon, immigrated to the US in the 1850's and settled in Trenton, NJ, with the exception of David who settled in Ridgefield, CT.
