Samuel was first married before 1721, the year his eldest child Eleanor was born. The name of his first wife is unknown. [3]

Samuel married, second, Grizzel Graham on 16 April 1735 at Old Swedes Church, Wilmington, Delaware. [4] Their marriage license was apparently issued on 10 April 1735. [5]
