Biography

Robert Means

BIRTH 23 Feb 1807 Rockingham County, North Carolina, USA

1st MARRIAGE 15 September 1833 to Jemima House (1813–1846) in Indiana (Uncertain)

The Draper Family History hints at Indiana as the marriage location because Robert's parents die in North Carolina, when he is about 15, and he, his younger brother and 2 younger sisters were "bound out", (as written in the Draper Family History). This meant they went to live with family in which there are at least two candidates. Robert has three older brothers and two older sisters who could have taken them in. However, three of his older siblings are still young adults. Robert and his younger siblings are next located in Indiana. Robert's older brothers, Alexander and John, are the better candidates that they moved in with, and both brothers will move to Indiana. It is possible the children were divided up among family members. Robert's younger siblings marry into the Draper family, in Indiana. William Means marries Elizabeth Draper in 1830, Nancy Means marries William Draper in 1833 and Celia Means marries Ira Dillingham Draper in 1836. Robert married Jemima House the same year as his sister Nancy and William Draper (1833) This is the reason we think Indiana is the probable marriage location.
