Biography

Sean Andrew McLeod - age 44, Wentworth /Springhill, NS. It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, grandfather, son, brother and friend at his home on the river in Wentworth with the absolute love of his life, Alanna Jenkins, by his side. Also lost on this day was their dear neighbour, Tom and their two loving labs, Bama and Remi due to a senseless tragedy on Sunday, April 19th, 2020. Born August 6th, 1975, the second son to Dale and Audrey (Kavalak) McLeod. The family moved to Bible Hill where he attended school and later went on to graduate from Cobequid Education Centre in 1993. He was a proud member of the CEC rugby team as well as the Truro Saints Rugby Club where his daughter, Amielia continued his passion for the game. Sean’s lifelong career choice led him to the Holland College where he took the Policing and Corrections course. He had also taken the Emergency Response Team basic training and negotiator training and became a skilled crisis negotiator for a number of years. In March 1997, Sean completed The Correctional Training Program which was just the start of his 23 year career as a correctional officer at Springhill Institution. During his time there, he had worked in various capacities including Correctional Officer I and II, Acting Assistant Warden of Operations, Coordinator of Correctional Operations and recently, Correctional Manager. As a past founder of the Union of Canadian Correctional Officers, he was Springhill’s first local president and said to always have the health and safety of all members in mind. Although Sean had a great career with CSC, he was counting down the days until retirement and looked forward to a house full of grand babies and loved ones. Whether he was hunting in the woods, floating on the river or fishing on the boat, Sean was happy all while doing it with a Crafty Radler in his hand. From the Saturday night Hoedowns and get-togethers with his Hunter road family, vacations south of the border with his family, including his in-laws, Dan and Susan Jenkins, who held a special place in his heart. He also loved having his granddaughter, sweet “Little Ellie Belly”, as he called her, for a sleepover. Sean always had a smile on his face. We will miss him forever and a day. He was our world, the backbone of our family and our biggest supporter. We will fill his dear Ellie with stories of their sweet Grampy and Nana Lana, and never let their memories be lost.

Sean will be more than missed by we, his daughters, Amielia and Taylor (Logan), granddaughter, Ellie, who was the light of his life; parents, Dale and Audrey; brothers, Scott (Charline), Chris (Susan); nieces, Samantha, Paige, Isabelle and nephew, Alexander as well as many cousins he shared fond memories of. His work family, his Hunter Rd family, everyone he considered a best friend and Alanna’s entire family, especially her parents Dan, Sue and her brother, Josh, who he proudly considered his own. He was predeceased by his grandmother, Edna Kavalak, uncles, Charles, Norman and Tommy as well as his Aunt Judy Courtney (McLeod).

At this time, due to Covid-19, there will not be a visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please consider the other families that have been affected by this senseless and tragic act. Donations may be made to their Go Fund Me pages for the other families. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro.
