Biography

Irma McKinnon was born in February 1930 in Drake, Saskatchewan. She was the daughter of Alex Mckinnon and Edna Stevenson. Her father was a farmer and her mother taught at Floradale School before she married. Her mother died in 1934. The family moved to Prince Rupert during World War II. Irma worked for a few years in a fish factory.

Irma married Rich Verner on 10 August 1957 in Regina, Saskatchewan. They lived in Saskatoon before moving to Calgary. They raised three children.

Irma enjoyed skiing. She volunteered with the Calgary Philharmonica Orchestra for twenty-three years, the Foothills Medical Centre (Reader Retreat), and the John Howard Society. Irma passed away at home in July 2019 in Calgary.
