Biography
My parents emigrated from Scotland to Australia in the 1970s.
My dad passed away in January 2000 when I was 15 years old, so I never really had the opportunity to find out from him about my heritage from his side. Although he had proudly told me about his great uncle who was a true hero, and recipient of the UK's highest award, the Victoria Cross, for gallantry in his service during the WWI in France, Pte Hugh McIver VC MM & Bar, 2nd Battalion, Royal Scots. My dad felt so proud to be a descendant of such a brave and heroic young man. Hugh was the brother of my great-great granny, Jane McIver.
Most of my ancestors were Irish (3 out of 4 of my grandparents are Irish descendants although all were born in Scotland) - pretty much from all over Ireland from what I have discovered so far. My mum's maternal line is Scottish at least as far back as the mid 1700s.
