John married at age 21. John and his wife came to Australia from Paisley Scotland in 1854 with their first child John (only a few months old). The arrived in Australia on 15 Mar 1855 aboard the "Nepaul" [1]. They lived at 'Longreach' on the Shoalhaven River until 1866, when they went to Gleniffer near Bellingen. They were the first settlers at Gleniffer, this name was given to the district by John McFadyen after an area in Scotland. Five more children were born at Longreach, and the rest were born at Gleniffer. John and George Tyson went to the Macleay River to acquire the first dairy cattle to come to the Bellinger River district. They had to be swum across rivers such as the Nambucca River.
He died on 21 Feb 1921 aged 88. [2] [3] [4]
