Annie McEwen was born in Scotland in about 1865. She was the daughter of James McCune and his wife Mary Hart. A Scottish birth record hasn't been located with the names of both parents.
The surname McCune was also recorded as McEwen and McEwan.
By 1871, Annie's father had passed away. On the 1871 Scottish Census, Annie McEwen was living with her mother, and an older sister Elizabeth, at 49 St Andrew's Square, St Andrew's Parish, Calton, Glasgow. Her mother was recorded as Mary Hart, 41, widow, tailoress, born Ireland. Elizabeth, aged 14, was a mill worker. Annie aged 6, was a scholar. Both girls were born in Glasgow. [1]
In April 1874, Annie's uncle, Samuel Greer of Helidon in Queensland Australia, nominated his sister-in-law, Mrs Mary McEwen and her daughters as immigrants. On 30 November 1874, Annie, her mother Mary, and sister Elizabeth McEwen departed from Glasgow on the ship "Corlic". They arrived at Moreton Bay Brisbane, on 9 March 1875. On the shipping register, Annie was listed as an assisted immigrant. Her mother Mary McEwen and sister Elizabeth McEwen were recorded as remittance passengers. [2]
On 24 November 1880, Annie married Thomas Jones Brown at the Cathedral Church, St Andrew, in Sydney, New South Wales. On the marriage register, Annie was described as a spinster, minor, born Glasgow, and the daughter of James McEwen, a labourer, and Mary Hart. Thomas Jones Brown was described as a bachelor, labourer, born Liverpool, and the son of William Anderson Brown and Sarah Brown. [3] [4]
Thomas J Brown was a milk vendor. He passed away in June 1917 in Sydney. The funeral procession moved from the family home at 450 Harris Street Ultimo, Sydney. In Thomas's funeral notice, it stated that he was the dearly beloved husband of Annie Brown, and dear father of Norman Brown, Mollie Brown, and Mrs Violet Hansen. [5]
Mrs Annie Brown passed away in 1950 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. [6]
A death notice was placed in the Sydney Morning Herald Newspaper. [7]
Mrs Annie Brown was buried at Rookwood General Cemetery in Sydney New South Wales.[8]
