Biography

Alexander White McEwan was born on January 16, 1834 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, England, United Kingdom.[1]He was the son of Hugh McEwan & Elizabeth Stewart. He was christened on February 2, 1834 at St. Andrew's Church in Newcastle.[2]

During the 1841 census, Alexander was living in St John, Newcastle, Northumberland, with his family. [3]

Alexander was living in Buckingham Street, Newcastle during the 1851 census. He was living with his mother and father and Six siblings. He was a Cabinet Maker at this time. [4]

By 1861 Alexander was still single and a Cabinet Maker living in Buckingham Street, Westgate, Newcastle. He was living here with his maother father and five siblings.[5]


In this town, in Carliol Street Chapel, on the 15th inst., by the Rev. G. Bell, Mr. Alexander MacEwan to Miss Ellen Jaycock. (Newcastle Guardian and Tyne Mercury, Sat., 18 January 1862, p. 8)

Alexander married Helen Jeacock (1839-1916) at Carliol Street Chapel in Newcastle upon Tyne.[6] Together they had 10 children, including: Together they had 10 children.[7]

In the 1911 census Alexander (age 74) was the married head of household at 157 Stanhope Street, Westgate, Northumberland, England. He was a Builder House Retired.[7]

Alexander White McEwan (age 85) died on 25 February 1919 in Newcastle. [18] His estate passed probate on 29 August 1919 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, England.[19]
