In the 'Dundee Courier' of 17 May 1917 - "Death of Eminent Dundee Pharmacist"
"Chemists in all parts of the country will learn with regret of the death of Mr Peter M'Ewan, editor of the Chemist and Druggist, which occurred suddenly yesterday at his residence in London. Born in Lochee sixty-one years ago, Mr M'Ewan was a son of the late ex-Councillor M'Ewan, who carried on business as a shoemaker.
He served his apprenticeship with late Mr John Peebles, chemist, Lochee. Subsequently he was in the service of James Hardie & Son, High Street, and removed from Dundee to Edinburgh on being appointed resident secretary of the Pharmaceutical Society. He held this appointment for several years until he became sub-editor of the Chemist and Druggist. Shortly afterwards Mr M'Ewan was promoted editor of that journal, and for twenty-five years he has filled the post with distinction. Mr M'Ewan is survived by a widow and family of three sone and two daughters. Mr R.A. M'Ewan, Lammerton Terrace, is a brother."
