My Mom was born in Kalgoorlie in 1928, the daughter of James McKenzie McEwan and Mabel Mary Robinson. She went to school and grew up on the Goldfields, and was the first Telegram Delivery Girl in Western Australia. She had the unfortunate luck of having to deliver 'death' telegrams to families during the war.
Mom was a very loving, gentle, caring mother, and she was also a working mother for many years. Her jobs included drapery shops, chemists and fruit shops.
My childhood memories are fond ones of Mom always going the extra mile for me. She would stay up half the night sewing clothes and knitting jumpers for all us kids, never once complaining that she was tired. It is only since I became a mother myself, that I fully appreciated all my Mom did for me.
