My paternal line, McDonald, goes back to Kilkenny, Ireland and to Skye, Scotland before that. This is my greatest interest, and the most challenging (of course). We are somewhat unique among McDonalds in that we are I haplogroup, not descended from Somerled but from a Gillespie family that were his contemporaries. I encourage all McDonald men to have their Y-DNA tested at FTDNA.com, and would love to hear from any McDonald descendants.
