Biography
Alexander married Jean (Dow) McDonald on the 8th April 1781 in Leith, Midlothian, Scotland. The witnesses were John McDonald) and John Brand. [1]
Research Notes
The names of the witnesses suggest his parents may have been Alexander McDonald and Margaret Brand of Burntisland. No baptism has been found yet for him.

The marriage is also recorded at Burntisland. "Alexr MCdonald & Jean Dow were married at Leith 8 Apr 1781. Wi.John McDonald & John Brand.
Alexander Macdonald snr and Margaret Brand had two sons called John in 1749 and 1753 at Burntisland but no Alexander found yet. I have not found Alexander junior's death yet but his second great-grandaughter married another Alexander Mcdonald in Edinburgh who was described as a cousin so maybe Alex snr moved to Edinburgh.
