Hoping you can help me change my father's paternal line. I have DNA results FTDNA Big Y 700 from my 2 brothers that confirms my father is not the biological son of William Henry James McDonagh 1899-1958.

Gary McDonagh, grandson of William Henry and Helene Barron Haplogroup did not match on FTDNA Big Y to my 2 brothers. William James McDonagh 1928-2018 biological father is Edouard Perras 1898-1954 - which I inserted today on William James McDonagh 1928-2019 profile. What is now need to do is disconnect all the McDonagh/Workman/Barnard etc family tree from William James McDonagh 1928-2019 but leave it connected to his birth mother and half siblings. I've read thru WikiTree and it says we can't "delete" and I understand the premise for this. So I'm only interested in learning how to disconnect the ancestors of William Henry McDonagh from my tree.. Hope this makes sense

Hi Cynthia,

This is not one of my areas of expertise. For general DNA questions, check out the Help pages. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:DNA_Help

For specific DNA questions, click on the move to G2G link below your question. This will create a G2G forum post. You can also post to the G2G forum here: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/ask

If you post to the G2G, be sure your post has the DNA tag. This is ensure that members with experience and interest in this topic will see your post.

You could also contact a mentor who specializes in DNA. The mentor page can be found here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Contact_a_Mentor

Hope that helps!

Hi Cynthia! Here is the pedigree on your Ihnatiy Fedirko: https://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Fedirko-Family-Tree-132. Once you build out your pedigree and need to add him as the "father" of your ancestor ... create a new profile, and in that profile at the very top it will ask you if a Wikitree profile already exists as the "father" of your ancestor with a box ... inside the box put: Fedirko-132 and voila! I will work on adding you as a profile manager to all the ancestors of Ihnatiy.  :)

Skye, received your email above. I think I've started a Pedigree Tree for the Federiko from John Chamyk's link on my tree. So can I still add the link above for Ihnatiy Feirko to what I have or do I have to delete the Chamyk/Federiko and open a new account for John Chamyk?
posted by Cynthia McDonagh
I don’t see either person mentioned in your pedigree. From your profile page (not home page), click on Family Tree and Tools tab. You’ll see what I see. There are no ancestors after your mother or they are not linked up to her. Don’t create any more profiles if I already have them, if we have duplicate profiles I’ll work on merging them.

The Federiko is on my husbands side's mother side not me Cynthia (my mom is Beatrice Dena).

I assume I need to set up a profile for John Chamyk so you can add the Federiko to his profile.

Is that correct.?

posted by Cynthia McDonagh
Yes, but you can also link Ihgnaty Fedirko to him. I can do it, but you will have to send me a link to his profile and also make sure his privacy setting is open so I can make the edit.

I change privacy settings to "public".

Skye, can you help or direct me to someone in the Wiki group who can help me upload Y-DNA test from FTDNA. I manage the account for my cousin Gary McDonagh who lives in Indonesia. I've also uploaded my father, my husbands John Chamyk and I mine.....if I did it correctly. PS loving all your wonder work on Cieplice.

Hi Cynthia! I'm glad to approve your account for you and help link your information to Cieplice relatives. :)

Sorry Azure for delay in replying. I'm not very familiar with WikiTree but this past year I've broken thru a few brick walls. My Family Tree is currently on Ancestry.ca. I stated in 2014 just after my mom passed. As you know, as the tree grows, it can become a full time job. My father was living with for about 4 years before entering senior care home and so my concentration on his side of family. His father was a British Home Child Migrant and we found his mother, her family but nothing on his father...no name for him. Similar issue with my dad's mother side. Cant find Walter Barron or Mary Clifford before arriving in Canada but the French side has been so easy. We are Tremblay's - Pierre and Ozanne Achon are 6th Ggrandparents (Perche and Normandie area of France) and then the Girard's from Paris, France. Between these 2 French families I have over 1200 ancestors. Then I have Silician family from Santa Catarina (my mother's parents), Brick Wall here. Then I started on my husband's family, Urkanain - which brought me to WikiTree. The language barriers are my biggest brick walls. We did DNA August 2017 - my husband, my daughter, my father, my younger brother and myself. The only surprise was the "high level of " French. I thought it would be higher on British side.

I'm not really sure what to ask for other than "how to use WikiTree".

Regards,

Cynthia McDonagh

Hi Cynthia,

WikiTree is a great place for genealogical research. One of the biggest reasons is it has a wonderfully helpful collaborative community. I would suggest looking for assistance from our England Project.

If you would like to join WikiTree and be able to add/edit ancestors to your tree, you will need to volunteer to collaborate by adding tags that you want to follow. England would be one such tag. You could also have a tag for your maiden name and your husbands' surname. These tags become links that you can click on to see who else is interested in that surname, location, and/or project.

Our Genealogist to Genealogist (G2G) forum is a great place to ask for assistance! Make sure to add tags like; England, British_Home_Children, McDonagh, etc. https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/

You may find this page helpful as it discusses How to Use WikiTree: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:How_to_Use_WikiTree

Let me know if you have other questions. Happy to help, Azure Rae
