Biography

Joseph T McCool was born after 1815 in Tennessee. See research notes about his date of birth and parents.

He married Mary Fiser on December 21, 1837, in Davidson, Tennessee^[1]. They had four children^[2] in 14 years:

• William H McCool (abt.1837-1898)
• Michael F McCool (abt.1843-)
• John McCool (abt.1848-)
• Nancy Ann (McCool) Conway (abt.1853-)

No 1840 or 1850 Census records have been located.

In the 1860 census Joseph (age 38; born abt 1822), Laborer, was in District 15, Davidson, Tennessee.^[3]

In the 1870 census Joseph (age 55; born abt. 1815), Wood Wagon Driver, was in Nashville Ward 2, Davidson, Tennessee.^[4]

He died (very roughly) about 1875 in Davidson County, Tennessee. His wife Mary was shown as "widowed" in the 1880 Census.

Research Notes

Joseph's birth year is estimated based on two very different Census records: 1815 or 1822. His marriage date is known: 21 Dec 1837. He was probably at least 17yo when he married, so that pushes his date of birth to 1820 or earlier. Nicholas and Ellender married on 17 Sep 1817 in Blount County, Tennessee (eastern Tennessee), so that may push his birth date to 1818 or later.

It's unclear if there is any evidence tying Joseph to Nicholas and Ellender as his parents other than they were about the right age (if Joseph was born after 1817 when they married) and lived in Davidson County in 1840 (where Joseph was married in 1837).
