Biography

The 1850 United States Federal Census has July McComb (6) as the 1st child of A T [Thomas] McComb (33) a Farmer in the Agricultural Industry born in South Carolina and Sarah McComb (28) born in Georgia. Their 2nd was George [Georgie] McComb (4). The family was residing in District 41, Heard, Georgia, USA[1].

By the time of the enumeration of the 1860 United States Federal Census on 6 August 1860 in the County of Heard, Georgia, USA, Julia McComb had married Phineas M Singleton (24) a Teacher, and son of Sarah A Singleton (40) although only aged 16 on the Census form[2], actually 15.

Julia F Singleton married Mr James E Blackstock on 22 October 1868 at Fulton, Georgia, with authorisation given on 20 October 1868 as shown on the register[3]. The Geneanet Community Trees Index gives Julia's middle name as Franklin and that of James as Erwin[4], though no other sources have been found as yet to confirm those names. It gives the specific birth date as 8 November 1844 at Georgia, Georgia, USA, with father Rufus R Singleton and mother Sarah Ann Hamblet, and also has 9 of the names of Julia and James' 10 children.

Giving her age as 26 years in the 1870 United States Federal Census, Julia Blackstock was Keeping House for James E Blackstock a Farmer, and already had 3 children, Ira Blackstock (11) at School, Henry Blackstock (7) and Helena Blackstock (10 mths). Zilphia McComb (43) was also helping to Keep House in Subdivision 49, Floyd, Georgia[5]. It was enumerated on 11 July 1870.

In the 1880 United States Federal Census, Julia Blackstock (36) b.Georgia, who was Keeping House, was the wife of James Blackstock (42), a Butcher, also b.Georgia, and resident in Gainesville, Hall, Georgia, USA. They had 3 children Alice (11), Lula (3) and James (1). Also on the record was Zilpha McComb (53) who is given as Aunt to the Head James Blackstock, born in Georgia but the only one with parents born in South Carolina[6]. The Census was enumerated on 8 June 1880 in Militia District no 411 Gainesville including the town of Gainesville, in the County of Hall, State of Georgia.

The 1900 United States Federal Census has Julia Blackstock (55) Widowed and a Farmer, born Georgia, USA, residing in a rented Farm House at De Armanville, County Calhoun, Alabama. She had had 10 children and 5 were still living, with 2 at home with her at the time of the Census. These were Richard Blackstock (19) a Farm Labourer, b. May 1881 and Georgia (14) b. June 1885, both in Georgia[7].

In the 1910 United States Federal Census, Julia Blackstock (66) was the Mother-in-Law to the Head of the host Glenn family, Edward Glenn (32) an Engineer in a Pipe Shop whose wife was Georgia Glenn (24) and who were living with their 3 children at Fourteenth Street, in Anniston Ward 2, Calhoun, Alabama, USA[8].

Julia F Blackstock's 'Find a Grave Index' record has her death on 11 October 1918, with burial in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, in Oxford, Calhoun County, Alabama, United States of America[9].
