Research Note

McAdow is an alternative spelling of McAdoo and was used most famously by the Reverend Samuel McAdow, a founder of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. There is speculation among McAdoo genealogists that rather than Cope, this Samuel's middle name may have been Coop, a recognition of the maiden name of Hannah Coop (sometimes miss-spelled Cope) the last of the Reverend's three wives who all died young.

Samuel had 11 children with second wife Ytje, 6 male, 5 female. Had six with first wife Mary, 5 female, one male.
