Alfred Martin Jr. was KIA in World War I .
Alfred was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1896, the son of Alfred and Alice (Warriner) Martin. He grew up in Cambridge[1] and neighboring Somerville, the youngest of two children.[2] (His sister Alice was 2 years his senior.)
At the time of the war draft registration, in June, 1917, he was living in Somerville and working a clerk at the Kernwood Country Club in Salem, Massachusetts. He was described as being of a medium build, with blue eyes and brown hair.[3]
He was drafted into the military during World War, and assigned to the 151st Depot Brigade. He was later transferred to the Machine Gun Company, 59th Infantry, 4th Division, and was deployed overseas shortly after, in May of 1918. Alfred was killed in action in July, 1918, in the area of Courchamps, France.[4] He is buried at the family plot at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Mass.[5]
