Research notes
Marriage date
OPR also has an indexed entry for 26/4/1741 annotated as "date assumed". The 1740 date comes from an Apr 26, 1742 cash payment "Given to the poor by James Fairbairn when married to Katharine Marshall and that Irregularly by Mr David Haig Nov. 5 1740", on a page ending "Entered 21 Jul 1855 by John Gordon and headed "Excerpts from Vol 2 of Session Registers Marriages", covering 1727 to the 1742 James.
The 1741 entry is from a rebuke from the session of 26th Apr 1741 (which day/mth is suspiciously like the above extracted cash payment entry, but a year earlier than "extracted"): The Session receiving information how that James Fairbairn & Katherine Marshall had Married Irregularly ordered the to be cited before them this day & being called they appeared & were rebuked for so doing & payed the dues" Henderson-2297
