Biography

Jon Månsson (Americanized to John H. Monson) was born in 1801 in Tännäs, the son of Måns Jonsson (1768–1847) and Märet Olsdotter (1762–1817). Tännäs is a parish in the province of Härjedalen and Jämtland County.

Jon Månsson was born in Tännäs parish 7 June 1801 to Måns Jonsson in Funäsdalen and his wife Märet Olsdotter.^[1]

Jon Månsson married Britta Jonsdotter on 7 Oct 1827 in Tännäs.^[2] Among their children were:

1. Märet Mary (Monson) Hagman (1829–1908)
2. Brita Betsey (Monson) Jonsdotter (1831–1923)
3. Sigrid (Monson) Peterson (1839–1924)
4. John Oscar Monson, Sr. (1841–1922)
5. Mons F. Monson (1844–1929)

Jon Månsson and Brita Jonsdotter lived in Funäsdalen. They had at least seven children, but some of them died young.^[3][4]

In March 1858 Jon Månsson and Brita Jonsdotter emigrated to North America with two sons, Jon and Måns.^[5]

• At the time of the US Census 1860 Jno (John) Munson lived in Vasa, Goodhue, Minnesota with his wife and two sons.^[6]
• They still lived in Vasa, Goodhue in 1865.^[7]
• And still in 1870.^[8]
• In 1875 John and Betsy Monson were in the household of married son John.^[9] This rather puts the death date from Find A Grave in question, doesn't it?

John passed away at age 73 in 1874 in Vasa, Goodhue County, Minnesota, and was buried in Vasa Lutheran Cemetery.^[10]

The family immigrated from Sweden to the USA i 1858 [1900 US Census].
