When Alexander Manson was born in 1873, in New Zealand, his father, James Manson, was 44 and his mother, Elizabeth Sutherland, was 39.[1]
He married Margaret McKenzie McDougall on 19 June 1901, in Otago, New Zealand.[2]
He died on 18 September 1927, in Otautau, Southland, New Zealand, at the age of 54.[3] He is buried in the Otautau New Cemetery, Otautau, Southland, New Zealand, 1 Block A VIII.[4] Inscription: In Loving Memory Of Alexander, Beloved husband of Margaret McK. Manson, Died 18th Sep. 1927, Aged 54 years. Also the above Margaret, Died 31st Dec. 1955, Aged 80 years[5]
SOUTHLAND TIMES - 19 SEPTEMBER 1927 / DEATHS-MANSON At his residence, Bayswater, on Sunday, September 18, 1927, Alexander, dearly beloved husband of Margaret McKenzie Manson; aged 54 years. SOUTHLAND TIMES - 19 SEPTEMBER 1927 / OBITUARY - Mr Alexander Manson; A Well-Known Otautau Farmer The death was reported yesterday of Mr Alexander Manson, of Bayswater, Otautau, at the age of 54 years. The late Mr Manson was born in Invercargill and received his education at the Middle School, then known as the Central School. He immediately took up farming on the completion of his education, being with Mr W. Fleming at Rakahouka for a time, and later going to the Ashley Downs Estate at Waiwera. In 1895 he took up the first section of the Bayswater Estate to be sold, and remained there until the time of his death. In hs early years the late Mr Manson was a member of the Pirates Football Club, and although in later years he did not actively follow up the sport, was deeply interested in his old club. He was a member of the Masonie Lodge, Otautau, and was for a time chairman of the Otautau Dairy Factory, but beyond this he did not interest himself in public affairs. In 1901, he married Miss McDougall, a daughter of the late Charles McDougall, of Fairfax. He is survived by his widow and a family of four, three sons, Ronald, Bruce, and Angus and one daughter, Jessie, all of whom are at home.
