Biography

Robert was born on 4 September 1890[1][2] in Imperial, Chase County, Nebraska. He was the son of George Miller Malcolm and Matilda Emma (Garland) Malcolm.

Notes:

  • In some online trees and Find a Grave, Robert's middle name is spelled "Swagart". There doesn't seem to be any source for that and the grave marker only has the initial S. On his WWI and WWII draft cards Robert spelled his middle name with an "i" -- "Swigart".
  • Robert S Malcolm had an older brother, Robert B Malcolm, born early in 1880, who apparently died young.[3]
  • In many online records it is said that Robert & Gladys were married in Akron, Ohio. All the marriage sources are actually from Akron, Washington County, Colorado.

In the 1900 census Robert S Malcolm (age 10) was the son of George M Malcolm in Pearl Precinct, Chase County, Nebraska.[4] Robert's father, George, had immigrated as a child in 1852 and was a naturalized citizen.

In 1908 Robt Malcolm (age about 17) was on a land ownership map in 1908 in Imperial, Lamar Twp, Chase County, Nebraska.[5] This seems odd. If Robert was a land owner at 17, why was he listed as a farm laborer on his father's farm in the 1910 census?

In the 1910 census Robert S Malcolm (age 19) was the single son of George M Malcolm in Pearl, Chase County, Nebraska.[6]

He was married with one child, and grounds for exemption from draft was "sickness". He was described as tall and slender with dark blue eyes and dark hair.
