John James Lyons was believed to have been born in May 1863 at or about Gawler in the South Australian Colony. (If anyone has a reference for this could they please update the record)

J. J. Lyons was an Australian cricketer who played in 14 Test matches between 1887 and 1897. He made his debut against England at Sydney from February 25 - March 01, 1887. And played his last also against England also at Sydney from December 13 - 17, 1897. He was a right hand batsman and right arm medium fast bowler.

He passed away in July 1927 at or about Magill in South Australia and is buried in the West Terrace Cemetery in Adelaide, South Australia.

From the News newspaper of Thursday 21 July 1927 we see the following Death Notice:

JACK LYONS DEAD
HARD HITTING BATSMAN
Giant in Australian Cricket Mr. John James Lyons, of inter-national cricket fame, more familiarly known as J. J..Lyons, the hard-hitting South Australian, died in Ade-laide Hospital at 2 o'clock this morn-ing. He had suffered for a long time from an internal-complaint.
Born in Gawler 64 years ago, Mr. Lyons was educated in the northern township and later-at the Gilles Street School, Adelaide. His early life was spent in a share broking business. Subsequently he entered the Government service in the Lands and Titles office, in which he remained until his removal to hospital last week.
Deceased left a widow and five children, Messrs. Maurice John (Adelaide) and John James Lyons (Broken. Hill), and Misses Winifred Annie (Melbourne); Alma Charlotte, and Lillian Jessie Lyons (Adelaide).
The burial will take place at West Ter-race Cemetery tomorrow, afternoon. Members of the South Australian Cricket Association will attend.
