William Luxford was the son of William Luxford and Fanny (Habgood) Luxford.
He was born at Hellingly, Sussex in 1797, worked as a corn merchant (lit. Corn Chandler) from at least 1829-31, then sailed with some of his siblings for New Zealand in 1839 on the Adelaide, arriving in Wellington March 1840.
William became a butcher on Lambton Quay, Wellington.
He died at age 74 at his home, Berhampore Farm in April 1870, and was buried in the Bolton Street Cemetery, Wellington.
Luxford & Ling (Firm): Wellington butchers firm from 1850s-1860s. Those involved included William, a Mr Benjamin Ling[1], and William's sons George, Charles, Jabez, and William Nicholas Luxford.[2][3]
"We regret to notice in our obituary of today, the demise of an old and respected settler, Mr William Luxford, who died at Berhampore Farm on the 7th inst., at the advanced age of 74.
