Allen Wayne Lowen was born in Covington, Virginia on November 8, 1946 and graduated from Covington High School. He has degrees from Cincinnati Christian University and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri. His entire career was spent in higher education, as a faculty member and administrator, including 14 years as a college President.
Wayne is an active genealogy researcher, tracking all known Lowen and Loan families in the USA, and many outside of the USA.
One of the largest Lowen and Loan families in the USA descended from John and Susan Loan/Lowen, who moved into Bath County, Virginia between 1810 and 1820. For the past 30 years, an active search to determine where they originated and their family origins has hit a roadblock. Thus, a search began to follow ALL Loan and Lowen families, in hopes of discovering that link.
Wayne is now a frequent source for others who are researching Lowen or Loan families, and maintains an extensive database on both names.

My father, Jimmie Lee Lowen, was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana in 1935. He passed away in 2018 in Seattle, Washington. His father, Eugene Lowen, was born in June of 1910 and died in August of 1980. I think that he was born in Covington, Virginia.
This snapshot of Eugene Lowen's life was captured by the 1940 U.S. Census. Eugene Lowen was born about 1911. In 1940, he was 29 years old and lived in Wayne, Indiana, with his wife, Leah, 2 sons, and daughter.
I was told that my grandfather at a young age, perhaps 10 years old, and his brother ran away from home and joined a travelling Wild West Show. Do not know how true it is. However, I have pictures of my Uncle performing tricks on a horse--my Uncle apparently taught by my Grandpa how to ride.
My great-grandpa, Eugene`s father was married at least four times I am told. His name was Felix Martin Lowen, 1869-1932. His wife was Blanch Eva Thacher, 1869-1910.
I will try to get some pictures uploaded.
Thank you!
