Lilly America Lovins was born in August 1892 in Kentucky. She was the daughter of James W Lovins and Arminta (Cundiff) Lovins.^[1]

In the 1900 census Lilly (age 7) was living in Magisterial District 3, Crawford, Breathitt, Kentucky.^[1]

America was listed in the divorce record of Walter & Lillie Reffitt. In the 1917 divorce America was said to have a child by Walter and had taken up with him in his home and away in Perry County, Kentucky and Clinton County, Ohio.^[2] It was known at the time that the affair of America and Walter was not just as it was stated in Walter's divorce record. It was known that Walter and his wife Lillie were involved with America together for a time.^[3]
