Father Joseph Charles "Joe" Lockwood Sr 1819 – 1895
Mother Mary Wood 1818 – 1898
Joseph Charles Lockwood is the son of Joseph Lockwood and Mary Wood of Yorkshire, England.[1][2] He came to the US in Oct 1852, during the first year of his life, on the packet clipper ship John Stuart with his mother Mary and aunt Ellen Lockwood. They settled in Trenton, NJ. He had two sisters, Emeline & Alice. Both were born in the US. Emeline died when she was eleven years old. Cause of death is unknown.
Joseph was a tall man with light brown hair and gray/blue eyes. He married Elizabeth Grinrod, another English immigrant, who came to Trenton in the 1850's with her parents. They had nine children: Ida Pearl, Charles, William Wesley, Lewis, Lester, Frank, Arthur, Joseph and Albert. Charles & Frank both died in infancy.[3]
Like his father, Joe worked as a wire drawer. He was preceded in death by his wife "Lizzie". In the 1920 US Federal Census he is listed as living in Trenton, NJ in a boarding house. I'm not sure why this would be since most of his children also lived in Trenton in 1920. No further public records about Joseph have been uncovered at this time. However, Greenwood Cemetery internal records have revealed burial date & site. Joe is buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Trenton, NJ alongside his brother-in-law, Henery Matthews & nephew, Henry Richard Matthews.
His wife, Lizzie, is also buried at Greenwood Cemetery, as are several of his children & sister. However, they are located in other sections. Joseph was buried on 18 October 1921 in section B-NE, lot 296.[4]
