William Lockhart was born or baptised on 22 December 1771 in North Berwick, Haddingtonshire the son of William Lockhart and Catharine Whitecross^[1].

William married Agnes Bauld (born about 2 April 1775 in Cockburnspath, Berwickshire, Scotland; daughter of William Bald and Isobel Fairbairn) on 14 May 1802 in Cockburnspath, Berwickshire^[2]. The marriage was also recorded on 15 May 1802 in Whitekirk, Haddingtonshire^[3].

By 1841 William was said to be 69 years old and employed as an Agricultural Labourer. He was living with his wife Agnes (67) at Aberlady, Haddingtonshire with their son Robert and grandson, William^[4].

It is believed that William died before 1851 however this is uncertain and based on him not being found in the 1851 census.

William Lockhart was born about 1730 this is estimated based on his year of marriage.

There are two possible births for William:

1. William Lochart born or baptised on 25 August 1728 in Prestonkirk, Haddingtonshire the son of James Lochart and Agnes Cune^[5].
2. William Lockhart born or baptised on 24 July 1726 in North Berwick, Haddingtonshire the son of Robert Lockhart and Marion Frank^[6].

As William's eldest son is named Robert and he also had a daughter named Marion it is likely the second baptism is his however further reseasrch is needed to corroborate this.

Catherine Whitecross was born about 1730 this is estimated based on her year of marriage.

William and Catherine were married on 30 June 1753 in North Berwick, Haddingtonshire^[7].
