Biography

David, 27th Earl of Crawford, was also known as the 10th Earl of Balcarres, Lord Balniel, and Baron of Wigan. He turned down the Viceroyship of India to serve as a private in the Medical Corps where he treated up to 1000 patients a day during World War I. In 1921 he was made Knight of the Thistle. David was also a politician and art connoisseur.

David was educated at Eton and Magdalen College, Oxford. He served as Chancellor of the University of Manchester from 1922 to 1940.^[1]
