Hugh Liddle was born on 12 June 1836 in Coldingham, Berwickshire, Scotland, United Kingdom the sone of Thomas Liddle (1811 - 1859) and Margaret (Aitchison) Liddle (~1813 - 1875)^[1].

Hugh married Margaret Trickett (born on 20 October 1838 in Ayton, Berwickshire; daughter of John Trickett and Catharine Lamb) on 7 June 1867 in Cockburnspath, Berwickshire^[2].
